Ever since I was a little girl, I can remember spending all my time in either one of three ways: with my head in a book, being outside or watching Japanese (and Korean) dramas and cartoons; I was completely fascinated by their culture from a young age. I dreamt of one day visiting Japan when the cherry blossoms were in full bloom and being surrounded by an ethereal pink forest raining petals – a perfectly romantic and feminine scene. What seemed like a distant wish somehow became reality and I can’t help but feel so excited that I’ve actually scratched a high ticket item off my bucket list, and with Jackson by my side too! Magical things seem to happen more often when we’re together.
The last time I visited Japan was 2 years ago during the winter. I came home thinking I likely wouldn’t have a chance to come back in a long while, but somehow the timing of things just fell into place and I really couldn’t say no, could I? We began our trip in Tokyo, making our way southwest towards Kyoto, Osaka, Himeji and Kobe. We hadn’t realized how lucky we were until we heard from other travellers who visited during the same time and began their journey in Kyoto, when the cherry blossoms had not yet peaked, making their way towards Tokyo, where by that time they would have fallen. Lucky for us, the delicate flowers were in full bloom in each city we visited and sure enough, it was an incredibly picturesque, tranquil sight to behold. The pretty blooms pictured above were at Philosopher’s Walk in Kyoto where we walked along a canal with hundreds of cherry blossom trees lining both sides.
I mentioned that I have been finding myself gravitating towards simple, relaxed, and feminine silhouettes and this one was no exception. I loved combining casual elements like these ultra comfortable Keds sneakers with more polished looking pieces like this Club Monaco coat which I always want to slip on. Together with the skirt, they create a sort of effortless, flowy, timeless look, and not to mention practical too – perfect for long days where you need to be on the go for 12 hours straight!
